A brief history of how I became a blogger
Hello, I’m Jordaine-Faith Enriquez, but given my hypenated first name is too long, let’s just save everyone some time by calling me Jordaine.
Ever since I was in junior high, I have tried to become a blogger. It all started on tumblr.com, where I would post random thoughts. Since then, that platform overall has gone rouge and anti-mainstream since 2007, and I haven’t looked back.
In 2017, I graduated from university and went on a mission trip to Cambridge, England. I took plenty of pictures from that experience and wanted to share them with the world. It was also around this time I became interested in hand lettering/typography/[fake] calligraphy. [These terms are used as if they can be used interchangably, but they are really different things.] On July 28, 2017, my best friend convinced me to create an Instagram account, and @jenriquez2020 was born. At this point, the only things posted were fonts, food, and fotos. [I know, that’s spelled incorrectly, but you have to do it for the alliteration.]
In the fall of 2017, I started physical therapy [PT] school. The rigorous coursework meant the page had to be put on the back burner. After two semesters of PT school, I felt uninspired to make new instagram posts. After admiring friends’ nursing Instagram feeds, I thought, “Why not post about my life in PT school?” Eventually, I created the hashtag ‘#forthedpt,’ to distinguish my journey from the new and upcoming PT wannabes.
Since the summer of 2018, I have shared photos of my cool PT program and cohort, monthly goals, lettering projects, travel memories, and much more.
#BLOGgoals
In order to keep myself accountable, I needed to make a list of what I envision this blog to be. I had to answer the question: “What will you expect on Jordaine Enriquez?” Well, I’ll tell you:
- Blogs to follow: I know I’m not the best blogger out there. I know there are bloggers who are just like me – except they’re WAY better at this than me.
- [My inner dialogue indicated by italicized statements in brackets like so]
- What I’m Watching:
I LOVE multimedia.I am addicted to multimedia platforms. From Netflix to YouTube, there is always something to be seen on the screen. I want to regularly post/create a newsletter about the top shows and videos I have seen, so you have a dose of pop culture and be #relevant with the younger generations. - a HODGE PODGE of everything! I want to share my thoughts on fashion, my faith, PT school, my life in PT school, my life… you get the picture
- RESOURCES: It doesn’t help to keep free and useful infomation to yourself. Want to make good grades in school? There’s a resource for that. Want to read about pain catastrophizing and physical therapy? Here’s an interesting article I found.
If there is one thing this blog is not going to be, it’s a not a “Ned’s Declassified [PT] School Survivor Guide,” a PT tutoring site, OR a PT school acceptance plan. If you would like to ask me about applying to PT school or how to be successful in PT school, by all means, GO FOR IT! I enjoy helping people make decisions and sharing my experiences with the PTCAS application process and PT school. Disclaimers: First, my application story does not work for everyone – especially now that the process is more competitive. Second, I’m not the best PT student. In fact, I took a break from PT school because I have to retake courses. Just know, if there is anything to learn from my experience, it’s to learn from my mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.
Let’s make a domain
When I created my public Instagram feed, I wanted my content to be solely on Instagram. I refused to make a website because I didn’t want to maintain one. As you can see, I finally gave in and decided to buy my own domain. Why?
- I wanted to create a place where PT students can find various resources and discover new things about physical therapy.
- Eventually, I hope to sell things, and be 100% in control of my profits.
- Let’s be honest, you can’t fit all your thoughts and feelings into an Instagram caption. Plus, you can’t categorize the HODGE PODGE on Instagram.
You’re probably wondering, why use your name for the blog? To be honest, my best friend and I brainstormed through many blog names that sounded like your basic blog, but none of them felt right. [Ideas included, but not limited to: JustJordaine, ablognamedjordaine, @jenriquez2021…] While “For the DPT” sounds like a great name, it’s only part of this blog – not the entire blog. Plus, JORDAINE and ENRIQUEZ are both 8 letters long, so they’re symmetrical, which could make a great logo. I’ve always liked how my name is unique, and it’s easy to keep consistency across current and new social media platforms.
Forward
I hope this gave you a picture of what my website’s all about. I hope you find this to be a place of inspiration, guidance, knowledge, entertainment and more.
