” ‘Carpe diem, sister.’… I’ve one chance to live this life. Right? So, why not have the best f*cking time? “
ā Kate Hudson
As I mentioned in my first introductory blog post, I wanted to share with you what I’ve been watching. There’s so many things to see on the Internet from streaming services, social media, and the infamous YouTube — who has time to watch it all? I thought I would share with you what my eyes have seen, so you can be in the know or check it out for yourself! Plus, it gives me an excuse to feed my unhealthy habit of watching more things.
InStyle 25 Series
InStyle magazine is celebrating 25 years in the business, and to commemorate the occasion, they invited celebrities ranging from Jennifer Aniston to Salma Hayek to look back on all their past covers. It’s interesting to see what is/was fashionable, and these women just radiate confidence. These videos are quite short, but after watching all of them, I took away big themes or little blips of sayings.
That ’70s Show
I started binge-watching this series on Netflix for the last few weeks, and I’m already on Season 3. I grew up knowing about the show, but I never watched it. [After all, I was in elementary school.] I guess I wanted to understand why the show was a hit in its time and how Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher came to be. Did I spoil big plot lines for myself even though I’m only on Season 3? YES. How can you not? If there is one fact to know about me, it’s the fact that I LOVE light-hearted sitcoms, and That ’70s Show definitely falls into that category.
Queer Eye
It all started when I started watching Tan France’s “Dressing Funny” series on Netflix’s Youtube channel. Netflix recently dropped season 4, and I started watching the first episode Queer Eye as soon as I finished finals. I just have to ask,
“HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN SLEEPING?”
and
“WHY ARE THERE ONLY EIGHT EPISODES PER SEASON?”
Seriously, I have been missing out on some feel-good, reality TV. I finished all the episodes within a week, and I have already replayed some the newest episodes in efforts to get my family to watch the show. I’ve recommended the show to my friends. [UPDATE: They are also in love with the show.] I guess all that’s left to say is that Tan France is my favorite of the Fab 5 because I love fashion and want to support the Asian minority.
What I’m Listening to This Week
In efforts to not have my eyes staring at blue light screens all day, I started listening to podcasts again. I say “again” because I was a HUGE podcast listener back in high school. [You know, when podcasts were still a secret realm of entertainment, nobody knew what was going on, the only serious listeners were NPR nerds (I was not one of them).] It seems like everyone has a podcast – celebrities, social media influencers, comedians – even PTs! While it’s cool to see more people tuning in [pun intended] to podcasts, there’s now too many shows to count and not enough time in our lives to listen to ALL of them. While podcasts are becoming mainstream, here’s one show I’ve been listening to on my commutes between my hometown and Galveston.
This year, I binged watched all the episodes of Gilmore Girls and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. While browsing iTunes podcasts, I somehow stumbled on this one. I’m not gonna lie, the first episode was rough to get through despite the disclaimer co-host Kevin Porter made at the beginning, but now, I’m on the episode where the two men discuss Season 1, Episodes 13 + 14. Part of me wishes I found this podcast earlier when I started watching the show, but these dudes are entertaining with their inside show jokes and self-made segment theme songs. Not only are they the only podcast to review ALL seven seasons of the show, but they have additional episodes that consists of chatting with stars of the show (e.g. Lauren Graham, Vanessa Marano).
They also have spin-off shows, where they review other TV shows also produced by Amy Sherman-Palladino – AKA the woman who created Emmy-winning show, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”. [Yeah, discovering this podcast made me realize that I like everything produced and written by Amy Sherman-Palladino. I need Netflix to include Bunheads in their services.]
Fin
Well, I hope you liked this post. My hope is to continue this as a series on the blog. [At least there is one form of consistency.] Ideally, I would like to create a list of at most 5 things to watch, but we’ll see. If you have any recommendations, send them my way!
I would also like to apologize if I offended anyone for using a quote with the f-word.
NOTE: This is the first post on my new blog. [CRAZY!] Iām just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.
