So, now what?
Good question! After all, I have TWO SEMESTERS and then some to myself. While my former co-hort is starting their third year of PT school, I’ll be going through the Scorebuilders PTEXAM: The Complete Study Guide. Many PTs recommend it as it’s visually appealing while helpful in explaining answer choices (even the incorrect answers). A few of my classmates have the book, which has come in handy in some of our exams.
I already started seeing a counselor. Praise Jesus that my church has free counseling services. 🙌🏼 We’re trying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have many things to talk about with her, so hopefully all issues can be addressed in the next ~nine months. [It’s like I’m going to give birth…to a new me.]
I have been told to work or observe at a PT clinic. When I hear that, I’m TRIGGERED. That’s the thing I least want to do. [I do not lie about these things.] It’s sad and unfortunate, but if I’m not meant to be a PT, why observe? I know, it doesn’t hurt to try and it’s relevant since I’m technically still in the program, but I need to find a way to not feel insecure or frustrated. [an issue that needs to be addressed in my counseling sessions]
I have a bunch of other activities planned during my time off, I’ll present to you my list for accountability’s sake:
- Purge and organize inside and outside my dresser
- Clean the inside of my car
- Take my shirts from undergrad and make a T-shirt quilt
- Travel – I have planned a girls trip with my cousin and her best friend to Seattle. I’m also hoping to visit friends in Dallas.
- Get out of my spiritual rut – I’m starting to attend midweek Bible studies, but I’m trying to figure out what God wants from me during this time of rest.
- Read a book [or two]
Lastly, I’m working on this blog of course! As you know, blogging and social media management have been a hobby/talent of mine, and now I can spend more time on it. I have been working on my domain and branding this whole 3-week long summer. I’ve been watching videos and learning about how Instagram works. Ideas just effortlessly flow out of mind, and I have to write them down to remember them. Since I’m currently in PT school, PT content may be different. [I’m thinking tips and NPTE questions.] I’m still trying to find the balance between general lifestyle + physical therapy, but so far, the ratio is 80/20 respectively.
Call to Action
I apologize for the long post, but if you read it until the end, CONGRATS! I’m calling you a true friend. Thank you for reading this post in its entirety. Your support is truly appreciated. As I said previously, I’m optimistic as to what the future holds during my time away from school. All I ask from you is to pray for me – for guidance, self-love, opened heart + mind, and everything in between.

Hi Jordaine! I’m so sorry to hear about your struggles in PT school that you need a break. On the other hand, I love your outlook and attitude towards these changes! I’m sure it wasn’t easy to get here, but you sound so calm and ready to take on what’s next. Your perseverence is inspiring. I so look forward to what you have ahead of you, PT or otherwise!
There’s so much of your story that resonates with me, so I’m so grateful that you share your story!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I’m not gonna lie, it took time to process my feelings and reach acceptance of all that has happened. I finally realized breaks are a good thing. I look forward to updating you on my journey.
